09.27.2009 – Appalachian Values

Appalachian Values – 09.27.2009

Carla Gover is a Kentucky musician, dancer, and educator who has performed and taught around the world. She is something of an “ambassador” for Appalachia outside the region, as she presents the beauty, dignity and strengths of a region much maligned by pop culture and media. Within the region, she has a special passion for working with youth and as a community organizer. Carla will be singing and speaking about what Appalachian values can offer modern American culture today.

09.06.2009 – Room for Doubt

Room for Doubt – 09.06.2009

Religion is often said to offer longed-for certainty, but if it does, it also brings intolerance. Our tradition has chosen a different approach, making room for doubt – a reading in the current UU hymnal by TJ’s founding minister, Dr. Weston, is entitled “Cherish Your Doubts.” I’ll look at our tradition and the new book “In Praise of Doubt.”
