Red Ribbon Congregation – 11.29.2009

As of my writing this, TJ’s Social Justice Committee intended to invite the congregation to vote to begin the process of becoming a Red Ribbon Congregation at our November congregational meeting. A Red Ribbon Congregation is one that has taken significant steps to become involved in global AIDS issues, as we believe we have begun to do with our work with AIDS orphans in Vihiga. I’ll look more at the Red Ribbon Congregation Program and what other UUs have been doing in response to the AIDS pandemic.

11.22.2009 – Thanksgiving / Anne Hutchison

Thanksgiving / Anne Hutchison – 11.22.2009

Anne Hutchison came to Puritan Massachusetts in 1634, but by 1638 she had been excommunicated and banished. Her conflict with the established church led to the creation of a town in Rhode Island committed to the separation of church and state, and her example was a step towards having women ministers, so that there is now a statue of her in Boston honoring her as an “exponent of civil liberty and religious toleration.” I’ll share her story.
