TJUC has supported the Vihiga Children’s Home – a home for orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya – since 2004. This Fall, four of our young adults lived at VCH for four months. We’ll learn how our African children are faring through the eyes of these amazing volunteers. With Speakers Daniel Holder, Emily Neyman, Lillian Tuttle and Brian Pate.

Most people think the gospels tell the story of Jesus, but in fact Matthew, Mark, Luke and John tell different stories. We’ll look at some of what Prof. Bart Ehrman, the author of the recent book, Jesus, Interrupted, tell about this wellknown but often overlooked problem for Biblical literalists, and at other ways of appreciating stories.

Peacemaking – 01.10.2010

The UUA has been studying peacemaking for several years as part of it process of adopting Statements of Conscience. The statement proposed at last summer’s General Assembly was not adopted; a new statement has been proposed and
25% of our congregations must approve placing it on next summer’s GA agenda. We’ll look at some of what we’ve learned about peacemaking and the new proposal.

A Prophetic Tradition – 01.03.2010

Unitarian Universalism draws upon the prophetic tradition of Judaism and Christianity, which is not so much an effort to foretell the future as it is to shape it. I’ll look at some of the roots of this tradition, and at some of our movements current efforts. This is also the Sunday of our annual Frying Pan communion.
